Nigeria’s Rivers United and Zambia’s Power Dynamos have been drawn together in Group A of the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League, completing a highly competitive lineup following Monday’s official draw in Johannesburg.
The draw, conducted live at CAF’s broadcast partner SuperSport studios, produced several exciting fixtures, including a rematch between defending champions Pyramids FC of Egypt and Morocco’s RS Berkane.
With seven former African champions and the reigning title holders in contention, this season’s group stage is expected to be one of the most intense and talent-packed in the tournament’s history.
Group A headlines the fixtures as Pyramids FC and RS Berkane — winners of last season’s CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup respectively — renew their rivalry after Pyramids’ 1–0 victory in the CAF Super Cup. Nigeria’s Rivers United and Zambia’s Power Dynamos join them in what promises to be a fiercely contested group full of ambition and quality.
Record 12-time champions Al Ahly of Egypt will lead Group B, facing Tanzania’s Young Africans, Moroccan titleholders AS FAR, and Algeria’s JS Kabylie in a group steeped in history and rivalry.
Group C features South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns alongside Al Hilal of Sudan, MC Alger of Algeria, and St Éloi Lupopo of DR Congo — all known for their strong football traditions and passionate fan bases.
Four-time winners Espérance de Tunis will head Group D, where they will battle Simba SC (Tanzania), Petro de Luanda (Angola), and Stade Malien (Mali) in another set of heavyweight encounters.
The group stage will kick off between November 21 and 23, with two matchdays scheduled before the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 begins. The competition will then pause for the continental tournament and resume from January 23 to 25, 2026. The knockout stage is set to begin on March 13, 2026.
Winners of the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League will claim a $4 million prize, while runners-up will earn $2 million.
