Court Halts PDP Convention Over Lamido Exclusion.

PDP.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday directed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to suspend its national convention planned to hold on Saturday and Sunday in Ibadan, Oyo State.

In a judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu, the court also barred the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from supervising, monitoring, or recognising the results of any convention the party holds that excludes former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, as a candidate.

The court found that evidence before it indicated Lamido was unfairly denied the opportunity to obtain a nomination form to contest for the National Chairmanship of the party, contrary to both the Constitution and PDP Regulations.

It declared that the party is obliged to create opportunities for its members to serve by putting deliberate measures in place to help them realise their ambitions.

As a result, Justice Lifu ordered that the planned convention be put on hold to allow the plaintiff (Lamido) to obtain the nomination form, mobilise his supporters, and conduct his campaign.
