Eight Killed, Three Kidnapped In Fresh Borno Attack.

Eight individuals were said to have been killed on Thursday, while three others were abducted, after suspected insurgents attacked members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in Warabe, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

A resident explained that “All the members killed are part of the CJTF, except for one.”

A report by HumAngle stated that the attack occurred at about 10:00 am when the CJTF members, who serve as Warabe’s main line of defence due to the lack of permanent military presence, went out to gather firewood.

Locals recounted that the attackers arrived on five motorcycles with roughly 20 armed men carrying machine guns, while others approached on foot. The hunters attempted to defend themselves but were overpowered once their ammunition was exhausted.

After the incident, the assailants seized the victims’ weapons and used their mobile phones to deceive other hunters by pretending to ask for assistance. By the time additional help reached the scene, the attackers had already left with the stolen weapons.

According to the report, three hunters are still unaccounted for and are believed to have been abducted.

Residents continue to say that the absence of soldiers in the community leaves them vulnerable to such attacks. The closest military base to Warabe is in Pulka, around seven kilometres away, while Gwoza town is approximately 15 kilometres from the area.
