The federal government has launched a new initiative aimed at reducing youth unemployment, as the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) confirmed a partnership with InnoPower Africa to link young Nigerian professionals with remote job opportunities in diaspora-owned companies across the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Arewa, disclosed this during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with InnoPower Africa in Abuja.
She stated, “NIDCOM is proud to champion this initiative that embodies our core mandate: mobilising the Nigerian diaspora as active participants in solving our nation’s challenges.”
She added that “Nigerians abroad are employers, mentors, and champions who can directly create opportunities for their brothers and sisters at home.”
The founder of InnoPower Africa, Emil Ekiyor, explained that the collaboration would set up a complete ecosystem that includes major Nigerian institutions such as ITANA, enabling the recruitment and deployment of skilled young Nigerians through a secure digital business zone.
He noted that the initiative is also partnering with the University of Lagos’ African Research Universities Alliance Centre of Excellence for Unemployment and Skills Development, as well as the National Talent Export Program, to provide high-level training in technical skills, professional communication and remote work culture.
He said, “Nigerian talents are world-class, innovative, and ready to deliver exceptional value to businesses globally. What has been missing is not capability: it is access, preparation, and connection to opportunities.”
According to him, the partnership with NIDCOM and other talent ecosystem organisations is building the framework needed to make Nigerian professionals more visible and competitive in global markets where their expertise is needed.
Ekiyor stated that the programme will begin with a paid internship at the University of Lagos, allowing outstanding students to gain practical experience with international firms.
He also mentioned that diaspora-owned businesses registered with NIDCOM would receive a major discount on their first year of services if they employ a Nigerian professional for a full year, outlining some benefits for business owners.
He added that the initiative creates a pathway for university students to gain workplace experience, develop global business skills and transition smoothly into long-term remote jobs after graduation.
He said, “At the core of this initiative is Fast Track Virtual at www.fasttrackvirtual.com which is InnoPower’s talent placement platform that offers thorough vetting, extensive skills training, cultural competency development, and continuous quality assurance for both professionals and students seeking international work experience.”
