Rep Riley M. Moore, the US Congressman representing Virginia’s Second District, has called on the Nigerian government to disarm radical Fulani militants accused of terrorising parts of the country.
Moore made the statement on Saturday following the abduction of over 300 students and 12 teachers from St Mary’s Catholic School in Niger State.
The attack took place on Friday morning when gunmen raided the school, firing shots before forcibly taking many students away.
Expressing his distress on his official X account, Rep Moore said the incident deeply upset him, adding that it made his “stomach churn.”
He posted: “It is now confirmed that more than 300 children and 12 teachers were kidnapped from St Mary’s Catholic School in Nigeria.
“As a father, these attacks deeply upset me. The Nigerian government must take urgent action to disarm the radical Muslim Fulani militants who are terrorising the Middle Belt.”
