A former Ward Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Boriya–Shiya Ward, Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, and well-known trader, Alhaji Abubakar Sabi Sise, has been taken away at gunpoint by suspected kidnappers.
The incident was said to have happened in the early hours of Thursday.
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, said on Friday afternoon that he had not been informed about the case but promised to look into it.
The attack reportedly occurred around midnight when the kidnappers entered the compound, shooting several times into the air to frighten residents.
Sources revealed that one of Alhaji Sise’s sons, who was returning home late, was stopped by the kidnappers. At gunpoint, they allegedly instructed him to call his father, who then opened the door.
Once inside, the attackers took only the father and left the other members of the family without harm.
By morning, empty bullet shells and some live rounds were found scattered around the premises, showing that multiple shots had been fired to prevent any resistance.
Residents said the incident was short but frightening, lasting only a few minutes before the gunmen escaped.
The local vigilante group in Boriya was quickly informed and has started combing nearby areas in an attempt to locate the attackers and rescue the victim.
This is the second kidnapping recorded in the area within two months. A similar incident took place on September 17, when another businessman was taken from his home in the Shiya community, a few kilometres from Boriya.
As of the time this report was prepared, the whereabouts of Alhaji Sabi Sise were still unknown.
