US President Donald Trump has condemned the mass killings of Christians in Nigeria, calling the situation a “disgrace” and a genocide.
Speaking on a conservative radio show last Friday, Trump said thousands of Christians are being slaughtered by Islamist militants. He criticised the Nigerian government for not doing enough to protect its Christian citizens.
Trump had previously labelled Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” due to these attacks and warned that military intervention could follow if the violence continues.
He also suggested that the US might cut all financial aid to Nigeria if the government fails to improve security for Christians.
“Nigeria is a disgrace. They are killing thousands. It’s genocide, and I’m very upset. We send them a lot of aid, but that may end soon,” Trump stated, reaffirming his threat of military action if the situation doesn’t improve.
