The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has finally complied with the Federal High Court’s directive to defend himself against the terrorism charges filed by the Federal Government.
Kanu is currently submitting his defence documents inside the courtroom in Abuja, following the order of Justice James Omotosho.
After repeated complaints from Kanu about the filing process, the judge directed that the court registry be temporarily moved to his courtroom to ensure the defence papers were filed without delay.
During proceedings, Federal Government’s counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), informed the court that he would receive Kanu’s defence documents within the courtroom and respond accordingly.
As of the time of this report, the filing process was still underway, prompting Justice Omotosho to pause proceedings for one hour to allow the defence to complete the submission.
Previously, Kanu had refused to present his defence, insisting that the prosecution must first specify the exact terrorism law he was accused of violating before he could proceed.
