The Kebbi State Government has verified the abduction of the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Samaila Bambu.
Speaking on the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ahmed Idris, stated that he had received reports of the incident and was awaiting a detailed update from the state’s Director of Security.
“Yes, I just got the information about the alleged abduction of the Deputy Speaker in his hometown this evening. I am in touch with the Director of Security in the state. Once I get the details of what transpired, I will alert you very soon on the government’s position,” Idris said.
He added that the state government was actively addressing the situation and making necessary efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the lawmaker.
Eyewitnesses from Bagudo, the Deputy Speaker’s hometown, said that armed men invaded the area on Friday evening and began shooting sporadically.
According to the sources, Bambu was seized shortly after completing his evening prayers and heading home from the mosque.
