More States, Stakeholders Reject Ibadan PDP Convention.

The recent factional convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held over the weekend in Ibadan has further escalated tensions within the party. Several state chapters and party stakeholders have openly criticised the legitimacy of the convention and have rejected the expulsion of 11 senior members, including Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu.

A source close to the party revealed that both factions are preparing for upcoming legal battles as the crisis continues. The faction led by Umar Iliya Damagun disregarded a Federal High Court order that prohibited the party from holding the convention. Instead, they relied on an ex parte ruling from the Ibadan High Court, which adjourned the hearing until December 8. The case was initiated by party chieftain Folahan Malomo Adelabi.

Imo PDP Denounces Ibadan Convention as Unlawful

The Imo State chapter of the PDP, through its Publicity Secretary Lancelot Obiaku, rejected the outcome of the Ibadan convention, describing it as “a gathering of lawless friends.” Obiaku accused the group of disregarding court directives, violating party procedures, and allowing suspended and expelled members to participate as delegates.

He labelled the convention “a sham event riddled with illegality” and reaffirmed Imo PDP’s loyalty to Acting National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed and National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu. Obiaku also highlighted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not monitor the convention, signalling its lack of legitimacy.

Further dismissing claims of the dissolution of Imo PDP’s executives, Obiaku called such reports “wishful thinking” and baseless rumours spread by opponents.
