Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has boldly insisted that he cannot be found guilty without a clear, written law backing the charges against him.
During his terrorism trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday, Kanu expressed strong anger and challenged the court’s authority to convict him.
He maintained that no one has the right to convict him and questioned the validity of the legal basis for his prosecution.
Kanu is facing terrorism-related allegations before Justice James Omotosho but refused to present his defense after the prosecution concluded their case.
He argued that the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, the law under which he is being tried, has been repealed, rendering the charges invalid.
Due to Kanu’s refusal to enter a defense, the judge scheduled the verdict to be delivered on November 20, bringing to a close a trial that has lasted over ten years.
In court, Kanu declared firmly, “You cannot convict me without a written law. Are you mad? It is not possible. I am Nnamdi Kanu; who else can be tried like this?”
