NNPP Tells INEC To Reject Kwankwaso-Led Congresses.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) on Monday called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Nigerians to ignore the congresses allegedly organised by the Kwankwasiya Movement led by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, describing the exercise as unconstitutional.

In a statement issued by its National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, the party said all congresses mandated by court orders had already been conducted and concluded.

It recalled that the Kwankwaso group had written to INEC, notifying the commission of its intention to hold fresh congresses and a national convention between 25 November and January 2026.

According to the NNPP, the faction has no authority to conduct congresses on behalf of the party, stressing that the Memorandum of Association signed before the 2023 presidential election had since lapsed.

The party also noted that Kwankwaso, its 2023 presidential candidate, and several members of the Kwankwasiya Movement remained expelled for anti-party activities.

“We are still shocked that a man of Kwankwaso’s calibre insists on taking over a party that gave him a platform to contest the 2023 presidential election without cost,” the statement said.

The NNPP urged INEC to abide by court rulings and upload the party’s legitimate leadership on its website.

It added that the Abia State High Court and the Federal Capital Territory High Court had upheld the expulsion of Kwankwaso and his group from the party’s internal processes and disciplinary structures.

“It is unfortunate that Kwankwaso is carrying on in blatant disregard of court judgments.

“INEC’s previous leadership failed us, and we expect the current leadership to avoid repeating that pattern of disobedience to the rule of law.

“We do not understand why INEC has refused to respond to our letters insisting that the judgments of the courts be respected.”

The party accused INEC of giving attention to groups attempting to create instability in the democratic space, despite being aware of the binding court decisions.

It stated that several letters had been sent to the commission, yet INEC had remained unmoved, thereby encouraging disregard for lawful orders.

The NNPP appealed to its members nationwide to ignore what it described as fake congresses and conventions, saying it would continue to uphold peace while insisting on respect for the law.

It also urged INEC to support the survival of democracy, stressing that the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration could only thrive when the rule of law is upheld.
