Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has dismissed a viral social media message falsely claiming she criticised President Bola Tinubu over Nigeria’s security problems.
In a post shared on her verified X account, the former Minister of Finance described the circulating statement as fake and misleading, urging Nigerians to disregard it completely.
She explained that the message, which had spread widely across several social media platforms, was another attempt to use her name to stir political tension and create confusion.
“I have recently been made aware of yet another fake post circulating on social media purporting to quote me as criticising President Tinubu. This is completely false,” she clarified.
Okonjo-Iweala advised Nigerians to verify information before sharing it and warned against the growing trend of impersonating public figures to spread propaganda.
She reaffirmed that her attention remains on fulfilling her duties as WTO Director-General, particularly in advancing trade-driven development and supporting economic growth in developing nations, including Nigeria.
