An autopsy has officially confirmed that former Ondo State governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Mr Bamidele Akingboye, was murdered.
According to the Lagos State Police Command, the case file has been sent to the Department of Public Prosecution, DPP, for legal advice before charges are filed against anyone implicated in the killing.
Akingboye died under unclear circumstances on 3 September 2025, with his body reportedly found in the backyard of his mansion. His eldest son, Samuel Akingboye, who lives in Ondo State, notified the police and demanded a thorough investigation into the suspicious death.
Speaking to Channels Television, Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, CP Olorundare Jimoh, revealed that the autopsy carried out on 11 September 2025, along with new evidence, led to the arrest and re-detention of seven out of the 14 family members earlier questioned.
“With the toxicology results completed, we are awaiting DPP advice so that prosecution can commence against anyone found responsible for murder,” Jimoh said.
He added that the police remain committed to uncovering the full truth and ensuring that all those involved face justice.
One of the early red flags probed by investigators was a suspicious N50 million transfer from the late politician’s account, reportedly shared among some immediate family members, alongside other questionable activities.
