Protest Breaks Out At PDP National Secretariat In Abuja.

A protest broke out on Monday at Wadata Plaza in Abuja, the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as supporters loyal to the faction of the party’s National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, occupied the premises.

The demonstrators, singing solidarity songs, demanded that the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Umar Damagum vacate the secretariat without delay.

Abdulrahman had recently been named Acting National Chairman of the PDP following the escalation of the party’s leadership crisis, which deepened after the suspension of the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, for one month.

In a twist of events, the faction loyal to Anyanwu gathered at a separate location in Abuja, where they announced the suspension of the Damagum-led National Working Committee.

The protesters accused Damagum’s leadership of mismanaging the affairs of the party and vowed to take back control of the secretariat on behalf of the Abdulrahman-led faction.

Security forces have been deployed around the area to forestall any breakdown of law and order as both factions continue to battle for dominance at the PDP headquarters.
