Hundreds of protesters in Kano State took to the streets on Saturday to condemn recent actions by United States President Donald Trump concerning Nigeria’s internal security situation.
The demonstrators, largely made up of Islamic groups, gathered to reject Trump’s claim of a Christian genocide in Nigeria.
Carrying placards with bold inscriptions such as “We condemn Trump’s threat to attack Nigeria,” “There is no Christian genocide in Nigeria,” and “America wants to control our resources,” the protesters voiced strong opposition to the US President’s remarks.
Trump had earlier placed Nigeria on the list of “Countries of Particular Concern” following accusations of Christian persecution.
He also warned that the US military might intervene if the Nigerian authorities failed to address the killings of Christians.
The Nigerian government has since dismissed the allegations, insisting that no such genocide exists in the country.
