Taraba Speaker, 15 PDP Lawmakers Defect To APC.

Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Kizito Bonzena, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, announcing his defection to the All Progressives Congress, APC, over what he described as deepening factional divisions within the PDP at the national level.

He revealed that 15 other PDP lawmakers in the Assembly have also submitted letters indicating their intention to leave the party for the APC.

Those defecting include Deputy Speaker Hamman Adama Abdullai (Bali 2); Majority Leader Jethro Yakubu (Wukari 1); Tafarki Eneme (Kurmi); Akila Nuhu (Lau); Musa Chul (Gassol 1); and Josiah Yaro (Wukari 2).

Others are Tanko Yusuf (Takum 1), Veronica Alhassan (Bali 1), Anas Shuaibu (Karim Lamido 2), Nelson Len (Nguroje), Umar Adamu (Jalingo 1), Joseph Kassong (Yorro), John Lamba (Takum 2), Happy Shonruba (Ardo-Kola) and Zakari Sanusi (Ibi).

Bonzena stressed that the decision was taken in the collective interest of the state and not driven by personal motives.

He said:
“Our people should not misunderstand our action. This decision is for the good of Taraba State. All 24 members of the House are now in the APC. We want the people of Taraba to see this as the best step forward and continue supporting the government.”

Former Speaker Peter Diah, who represents Mbamnga Constituency, welcomed the defectors into the APC, recalling how they worked cordially even when APC members were in the minority.

He expressed delight that the lawmakers have now embraced the vision of President Bola Tinubu, describing their movement as a fresh beginning for Taraba State.

With the mass defection, the Taraba State House of Assembly now has no minority members.
