The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a motion at the Court of Appeal seeking to halt further proceedings in his ongoing terrorism trial before Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
In the fresh application, Kanu prayed the appellate court to suspend the delivery of judgment in his case until his appeal is fully determined.
The motion, filed pursuant to Section 36(1) of the Nigerian Constitution, could affect the November 20 date already set for judgment in the matter.
Justice Omotosho had earlier fixed November 20 for judgment in Kanu’s trial on terrorism-related charges.
However, the IPOB leader is contesting the validity of the charges, arguing that he cannot be prosecuted under a repealed version of the Terrorism Act.
