Tinubu Directs Withdrawal Of Police Officers Assigned To VIPs.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the recall of police officers currently assigned to provide security for Very Important Persons (VIPs) across Nigeria.

A statement from his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, said that police personnel will now be redeployed to focus on their primary policing responsibilities.

This directive was issued following a security meeting held on Sunday in Abuja, attended by the President alongside the chiefs of the Police, Air Force, Army, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services.

Under the new guideline, VIPs who still require police protection must formally request well-equipped security personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Many regions in Nigeria, particularly remote communities, suffer from inadequate police presence, hampering efforts to safeguard residents effectively.

The statement further noted that, given the nation’s current security challenges, President Tinubu aims to increase police visibility and presence in all communities.

In line with this, the President has approved the recruitment of 30,000 new police officers. Additionally, the federal government is working with state governments to improve police training facilities nationwide.

Those present at Sunday’s meeting included Chief of Army Staff Lt General Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and Director-General of the Department of State Services Tosin Adeola Ajayi.
