The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority, NIWA, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, has resigned his position to fully pursue his governorship ambition under the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Oyebamiji, who also leads a political structure within the APC known as AMBO, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on 25 October 2025.
The APC governorship primary is scheduled for 13 December 2025.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of his movement, Adebayo Adedeji, the resignation was confirmed, with appreciation extended to President Tinubu and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, for giving Oyebamiji the chance to serve the country.
According to Adedeji, Oyebamiji displayed outstanding leadership during his two-year tenure, applying nearly four decades of combined public and private-sector experience to reposition NIWA for greater efficiency.
He stated that under Oyebamiji’s stewardship, deaths and accidents on the nation’s inland waterways dropped by more than 70 per cent, while safety campaigns reached unprecedented levels. He added that staff welfare also received significant and widely praised attention.
As he transitions to the next phase of his political career, Oyebamiji is focused on providing effective leadership and quality service to the people of Osun State ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
Adedeji noted that Oyebamiji’s vision is to place the state on a sustainable path of economic growth that both current and future generations will value.
For the 2026 governorship race, the AMBO movement says Oyebamiji places his confidence in God, in APC leaders and members to nominate him as the party’s candidate, and in the people of Osun State to support his desire to serve with integrity, competence and dedication.
