Troops Rescue 74 NYSC Members From Abduction In Borno.

Adopted NYSC,

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai, the Joint Task Force in North-East Nigeria, have successfully rescued seventy-four members of the National Youth Service Corps from a possible abduction attempt by Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents along the Buratai–Kamuya road in Borno State.

The incident took place on Tuesday night after the corps members’ buses broke down near an area known for frequent terrorist activities. Military personnel monitoring a CCTV feed reportedly detected unusual movement involving three buses in the area, prompting the quick deployment of a patrol team at about 9:05 p.m.

A military source disclosed that the responding troops found seventy-four corps members — thirty-six males and thirty-eight females — stranded on the highway after their vehicles developed mechanical faults. The soldiers immediately evacuated them from the location to prevent a possible abduction by terrorists operating in that axis.

It was gathered that the corps members had earlier been escorted by troops of the 7 Division Garrison from Maiduguri to Damaturu. However, they later proceeded to Hawul Local Government Area without notifying Sector 2 Headquarters or obtaining a fresh armed escort.

Reports indicated that the group was on an evangelical mission to Hawul when their vehicles broke down. The rescued corps members are now being accommodated at the Buratai military base, pending arrangements for their safe onward journey.

This development follows a recent operation in which the same troops rescued eighty-six kidnapped victims and apprehended twenty-nine suspected Boko Haram collaborators within the same operational corridor.
