The thirty-eight worshippers abducted in Eruku, Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, have been reunited with their families, days after officials confirmed their rescue.
The victims were seized on 18 November during a thanksgiving service at CAC Oke Isegun, Eruku, an attack that resulted in three deaths and left one person injured.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, Dada Sunday, Chief Press Secretary to the Ekiti LGA Chairman, said the rescued victims were formally handed over in Ilorin to Chairman Awelewa Olawale Gabriel by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
He explained that the handover marked the completion of a joint rescue effort involving federal and state security agencies.
Chairman Awelewa thanked President Bola Tinubu, Governor AbdulRazaq, the National Security Adviser, and all security operatives, praising the rapid response that led to the victims’ safe return.
He also commended the medical teams who attended to the victims and assured residents that security measures across the 10 wards of the LGA would be strengthened.
The freed worshippers arrived back in Eruku around 6:30pm on Tuesday, where relatives and community members greeted them with relief and joy.
The Owa of Eruku applauded the rescue operation, noting that it had eased the anxiety that had gripped the community since the attack.
