An industry wild suspension has been handed Nollywood actor, Taye Arimoro over what the joint committees set up to look into issues involving him and a colleague, Peggy Ovire who had contracted Taye for her production as a producer.
The joint but individual committees of both Directors Guild of Nigeria, DGN, Association of Movie Producers, AMP and the Actors Guild of Nigeria, AGN passed their verdict after giving Mr. Arimoro series of chances to come make his case and to provide his own side of the story, which he failed to comply with but rather chose to take to social media for validation of an altercation that happened between himself and an entire production crew.
"News PlatformNG" can authoritatively report that the publisher, Precious Eze tried to intervene on the matter, suggesting that he (Taye) speaks with the committee, assuring him of the integrity of both the Chairman of the AGN Disciplinary Committee, Emeka Osai and the Secretary, Lilian Amah-Aluko, even went as far as providing the numbers of the committee Secretary, still, Taye refused to comply with the provision of his own side of what transpired during the altercation.
The joint committee involving DGN, AGN and AMP therefore has to roundoff their assignments on the matter, took a joint decision which is as follows. that Taye Arimoro was the primary aggressor, assaulting the production manager and the driver, circulated a false live video, misrepresenting the sequence of events and damaging the reputation of producer, Ms. Peggy Ovire, who according to the joint committee was not present during the initial altercation, admitting that the director, production manager, and crew were not culpable in any wrongdoing.
The joint committee took a joint sanction against Taye Arimoro and the sanctions are also as follows, that effective immediately, Taye Arimoro earns an industry-wide suspension, being suspended from all Nollywood productions until further notice instructing all members of DGN, AGN, and AMP to immediately cease participation in any production involving him.
The sanction includes that Taye Arimoro tenders a mandatory public apology, must issue a public apology on the same live platform he previously used, which is Instagram to the the production manager, the driver, to Peggy Ovire herself, he must release a corrective statement, release a factual corrective video clearly stating the true sequence of events, go back to complete the filming the two outstanding scenes for Pieces of Love under safe under supervised conditions and must comply with all further corrective directives issued by DGN, AGN, and AMP.
The sanction did not evade the producer and actor, Peggy Ovire with the committee stating that she that she did not initiate the altercation but did acted emotionally when she followed the actor to the estate gate, contributing to escalation outside the compound as her action according to the committee were reactive to the assault on her staff, instructing her to immediately issue an apology letters to all major guilds submitted through AMP.
Furthermore, Peggy Ovire is to issue a mandatory written undertaking ensuring better control of personnel on futures future sets, an apology to the estate management where the incident took place, must sign an undertaking on behalf of her driver, Mr. Joshua, pledging he would never become a part of any form of trouble on any movie set ever again.
These decisions and sanctions were arrived at as only the producer and actor, Peggy Ovire presented her own account of the altercation, but the other party and speaking specifically, Taye Arimoro, was invited to present his side of the account, given the option of sending in a voice recording but was very evasive, refusing all entrities to come through and as the committees had a timeline to finish and submit their reports, they had to round-off and handoff.
