The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress, APC, will sit on Monday to review and adopt the report submitted by the Osun State Screening Appeal Committee, which revisited the disqualification of seven governorship hopefuls earlier barred from the party’s 13 December primary.
The five-member appeal panel, headed by Senator Tolu Odebiyi, met with the aspirants over two days and has finalised its report ahead of its presentation at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.
The aspirants contesting their disqualification include former APC National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore; former Deputy Governor Benedict Olugboyega Alabi; Dotun Babayemi; Akin Ogunbiyi; Senator Babajide Omoworare; Kunle Adegoke (SAN); and Babatunde Haketer Oralusi.
Earlier, the screening committee led by Barrister Obinna Uzor had cleared only Hon. Mulikat Adeola Jimoh and Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, stating that both met all the constitutional and electoral requirements for the governorship primary.
The seven others were forwarded to the NWC for a final verdict.
A member of the appeal panel described the sessions as productive, confirming that each aspirant submitted documents and made their case before the committee.
He added that the exercise was “peaceful and conducted in a friendly, family-like atmosphere.”
The panel’s recommendations will be sent to the NWC through the National Organising Secretary for deliberation during Monday’s meeting.
Meanwhile, the APC has fixed its delegate congress and corresponding appeal dates for 9 and 10 December, ahead of the governorship primary on 13 December.
