Belgium Air Force Airbus 400M Atlas cargo aircraft is said to be heading towards Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
Brant Philip, a Sahel security analyst who closely follows military activities across West Africa, described the movement as “unexpected”.
In an update on X, Philip noted that the Belgian military aircraft was moving to the same area where the Nigerian Air Force C-130 cargo plane is currently located.
He previously mentioned that an unidentified aircraft departed Bamako, Mali, a few hours earlier, flying north before turning south towards Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
He wrote: “Belgium Air Force Airbus 400M Atlas cargo aircraft is unexpectedly landing in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
“An unidentified aircraft from Bamako, Mali, took off a few hours ago towards the north of the country before heading south towards Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, where the Nigerian Air Force C-130 cargo plane is currently stationed, possible Malian delegation en route”.
It will be recalled that at least 11 Nigerian soldiers have been held since Monday night by the military authorities in Bobo-Dioulasso in the South West of Burkina Faso.
They were detained after their aircraft made an emergency landing while “violating AES airspace.”
On December 7, a group of military officers announced they had toppled the government of the Benin Republic.
However, the Benin Republic presidency later stated that the coup attempt had been stopped and confirmed that President Patrice Talon was safe.
