Chinese Expatriate Freed After 3 Months In Captivity.

A Chinese expatriate who was kidnapped on 5 September 2025 at the BUA Cement Plant in Okpella, Edo State, has finally regained his freedom after spending more than three months in captivity.

The victim, identified as Mr Wang, was seized when armed men invaded the cement facility and killed eight officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

In a statement, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, Moses Yamu, confirmed that the expatriate was released at about 11:30 p.m. on 2 December 2025 in Kabba, Kogi State.

Yamu explained that the rescue followed a series of coordinated technical and tactical operations carried out by officers of both the Edo and Kogi State Police Commands, with support from local hunters and vigilante groups.

He noted that the Command appreciated all security partners who played a role in the successful mission.

The police did not state whether ransom was paid.

It was also gathered that Mr Wang left Nigeria immediately after he was freed and has since returned to China.

The Police Command has not provided further updates regarding efforts to apprehend the suspects behind the abduction.
