The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has begun supplying 50 million litres of petrol per day to the Nigerian market, a move the company says is aimed at preventing any form of fuel scarcity during the festive period.
This daily release amounts to 1.5 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit for December, with the same quantity set aside for January 2026.
Aliko Dangote, President and Chief Executive of Dangote Industries Limited, announced that the refinery currently produces between 40 and 45 million litres of petrol daily and has enough stock to sustain the new supply schedule.
He explained that delivering 50 million litres per day should put an end to claims that local refineries cannot meet national demand. He also noted that the daily volume would increase again in February, reaching over 60 million litres per day for that month.
The company is also working closely with petroleum marketers to strengthen distribution channels across the country, including expanding the use of CNG-powered trucks.
Dangote emphasised that the initiative is not driven by profit but by the need to ensure Nigerians have consistent access to essential energy products, similar to what the company achieved in the cement sector.
In a letter signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Refinery, David Bird, and addressed to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, the company invited the regulator to verify its daily production capacity starting 1 December.
It added that it is prepared to publish daily figures of its production and stock levels across major media platforms to promote transparency.
Dangote also said the refinery is advancing its expansion plans to reach a processing capacity of 1.4 million barrels per day. More than 100,000 workers are expected to be involved in the expansion of both the refinery and the fertiliser plant.
He stated that the group remains committed to its broader vision for Nigeria’s economic growth, supported by public confidence in its contribution to national development.
During a tour of the refinery and fertiliser complex, the Managing Director of the South-South Development Commission, Usoro Offiong Akpabio, praised Dangote for his ongoing investment in industrial development, national energy security, and long-term economic stability.
She described the South-South as a natural energy hub, rich in crude oil, gas infrastructure, maritime assets, agro-industrial activity, and emerging industrial clusters.
Akpabio added that deeper collaboration between the region and the Dangote Group could unlock opportunities in fuel distribution, CNG infrastructure, petrochemicals, agriculture, and job creation.
She said such partnerships would support the Federal Government’s drive for energy stability and position the South-South region as a key pillar in the Dangote Group’s long-term expansion into sectors such as gas processing, agro-industry, renewable energy, logistics, and export-focused manufacturing.
