The Department of State Services has reportedly detained a medical doctor accused of supplying medication to kidnapping groups operating in parts of Kwara State.
The individual, whose name was not available at the time, was stopped in the Jebba area after intelligence indicated that couriers were transporting medical supplies from Sokoto to treat injured bandits hiding in the forests of the state.
Security officials confirmed that many of these criminal groups have suffered gunshot wounds during recent confrontations with security forces.
“We are therefore advising increased security at health centres located in thick forest areas that kidnappers might target,” a security source explained.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Rafiu Ajakaye, confirmed the arrest and described it as an important success in the ongoing fight against banditry.
“This is a significant win for the DSS. It confirms that security agencies are closing in on these criminals and dismantling the support networks that sustain their operations,” he said.
Ajakaye added that the state government will continue to work closely with security agencies to block all channels that assist kidnapping activities.
