In 2024, the Federal Government identified 15 persons and business entities linked to terrorism financing activities both within Nigeria and abroad.
This list resulted from a joint security agency review focused on networks that facilitate the transfer of funds, logistics, and resources to terrorist organisations.
The individuals named include Tukur Mamu, Yusuf Ghazali, Muhammad Sani, Abubakar Muhammad, Sallamudeen Hassan, Adamu Ishak, Hassana-Oyiza Isah, Abdulkareem Musa, and Umar Abdullahi.
The government also flagged six companies, mainly Bureau De Change operators and trading firms, accused of aiding financial transactions supporting terrorism.
The businesses listed are West & East Africa General Trading Company Limited, Settings Bureau De Change Ltd, G. Side General Enterprises, Desert Exchange Ventures Ltd, Eagle Square General Trading Company Limited, and Alfa Exchange BDC.
Security insiders disclosed that these designations came after extensive intelligence gathering, detailed analysis of financial movements, and cooperation with global partners.
The action is part of a broader initiative to disrupt funding sources for terrorism, enhance regulatory compliance within Nigeria’s financial system, and bolster ongoing counter-insurgency operations.
Officials have promised that investigations will proceed, with more names expected as security agencies ramp up surveillance of banks, BDCs, and cross-border cash flows.
Nigeria continues to strengthen its counter-terrorism efforts, targeting the financial and logistical networks sustaining extremist groups in the Lake Chad Basin and northwestern regions.
