The Federal Government of Nigeria has disclosed that, working in close coordination with the Government of the United States of America, it successfully carried out precision strike operations on two major Islamic State ISIS terrorist bases situated within the Bauni Forest axis in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who stated that intelligence reports confirmed that the locations were being used as assembly and staging points by foreign ISIS operatives infiltrating Nigeria from the Sahel region.
He explained that they were working alongside local collaborators to plan and launch large-scale terrorist attacks within Nigerian territory.
According to the minister, the precision strike operations took place between 00:12 hours and 01:30 hours on Friday, 26 December 2025, after receiving express approval from the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He added that the exercise was conducted under established command and control systems, with the full participation of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and under the supervision of the Honourable Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs, as well as the Chief of Defence Staff.
The statement added, “The strikes were launched from maritime platforms domiciled in the Gulf of Guinea, after extensive intelligence gathering, operational planning, and reconnaissance.”
It further stated, “A total of 16 GPS-guided precision munitions were deployed using MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial platforms, successfully neutralising the targeted ISIS elements attempting to penetrate Nigeria from the Sahel corridor.
“During the course of the operation, debris from expended munitions fell in Jabo, Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State, and in Offa, Kwara State, near the premises of a hotel. No civilian casualties were recorded in either location, and relevant authorities promptly secured the affected areas.”
The Federal Government reiterated its firm commitment to tackling, weakening, and eliminating terrorist threats, especially those linked to transnational extremist networks attempting to threaten Nigeria’s sovereignty and internal security.
It stressed that Nigeria remains aligned with its strategic partners and Friends of Nigeria in pursuing coordinated actions aimed at achieving sustained peace, stronger border protection, and regional stability.
The Government also assured Nigerians that it remains fully in control of the country’s security framework and is committed to safeguarding lives and property. Citizens were encouraged to stay calm and alert as ongoing decisive actions continue against all terrorist elements posing a threat to the nation.
