FG To Adopt Single National Budget From March 2026.

The Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Philip Agbese, has announced that the Federal Government will begin operating a single national budget from March 2026.

Agbese revealed this on Friday while speaking with journalists in Abuja, explaining that the repeal and re-enactment of both budgets would create a more coherent and predictable funding framework.

He stated that the move to repeal and re-enact the budget is aimed at aligning Nigeria’s budgeting structure with international and global best practices.

According to him, the initiative would also enhance transparency and accountability across all tiers of government and reduce the pressure associated with oversight during implementation.

He said, “By adopting a single budget after 31 March 2026, the executive will be able to execute the budget without much hassle. When there is a single funding system, it becomes easier to manage cash flow and ensure timely releases.”

The deputy spokesperson of the Green Chamber also commended President Tinubu for his commitment to budget discipline and economic stability.

Agbese further stated that the parliament remains dedicated to reforms that will strengthen public financial management, enhance service delivery, and rebuild public trust in the national budgeting system.

The Federal Government has previously faced major difficulties in implementing the 2024 and 2025 budgets, which resulted in the execution of multiple appropriations within the same fiscal year.

It is recalled that on Tuesday, the National Assembly, following a request from President Tinubu, repealed and re-enacted the 2024 and 2025 budgets.

The lawmakers also approved an extension of the implementation period of the 2025 budget up to March 2026 to support fiscal stability and continuity in public expenditure.
