Muftwang’s Defection Takes APC Governors To 26.

With the addition of Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas and the imminent defection of Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) now counts 26 governors among its ranks.

A source within the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC) confirmed that Mutfwang’s defection has been finalised, and he has met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Mutfwang, who was elected under the faction-ridden Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is expected to formally join the APC in the coming days, ending all speculation about his party loyalty ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Contrary to rumours that the national chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, was opposing Mutfwang’s move, the party official insisted these claims were false.

The source explained that the governor contacted the chairman last week to announce his firm decision to leave the main opposition party.

Yilwatda, who hails from Plateau State, was Mutfwang’s rival in the previous gubernatorial election.

Following the governor’s notification, Yilwatda accompanied him to a meeting with President Tinubu at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.

“Governor Mutfwang informed the chairman on Tuesday about his intention to join the APC, and the chairman took him to see the president on Sunday,” the source said. “He will be officially welcomed into the party very soon.”

The source also confirmed that Kefas is already being treated as an APC member in preparation for his defection rally.

“We now have 26 governors in the APC, including Kefas, who postponed his official reception due to sensitivity regarding the national mood,” the official added.
