The Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft that was earlier held in Burkina Faso has taken off again and is now continuing its scheduled flight to Portugal.
The aircraft, conveying 11 Nigerian Air Force personnel, was en route to Portugal for routine maintenance when it made a precautionary landing in Bobo Dioulasso on December 8, 2025, after experiencing a technical problem.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa, confirmed on Saturday that the aircraft was released and allowed to proceed with its mission following diplomatic engagements between Nigerian authorities and the government of Burkina Faso.
According to him, the breakthrough was achieved after the intervention of a high-level delegation approved by President Bola Tinubu.
The delegation was led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and comprised the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed; the Nigerian Air Force Chief of Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal A.Y. Abdullahi; Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, Ambassador Olawale Awe; and the Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Wahab Akande.
