President Bola Tinubu held discussions with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday night.
The engagement took place at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, in what appeared to be an attempt to address issues ahead of the labour union’s proposed nationwide protest over escalating insecurity.
Also in attendance were top government officials, including the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma; Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo; Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris; and the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Honourable Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.
The labour delegation was led by the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero.
The closed-door meeting came just one day before the mass protest scheduled by the NLC for December 17.
While no official details of the meeting’s outcome have been disclosed, indications suggest the discussions focused on preventing the planned protest and finding common ground on critical national issues.
This development follows the NLC’s earlier position that there would be “no going back” on the protest, underscoring the urgency of addressing the concerns raised by citizens.
