The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Osun State has produced Adebayo Adedamola, widely known as Fryo, as its governorship candidate following the completion of the party’s primary election.

The primary, held on Tuesday at Adolak Hall in Osogbo, saw Adedamola secure 919 votes. His major contender, Governor Ademola Adeleke, did not participate after publicly resigning from the party less than 24 hours before the exercise.

According to the PDP electoral committee chaired by Mr Humphrey Abba, 957 of the 990 accredited delegates took part in the primary, while 20 void votes were recorded.

Announcing the results, Abba confirmed that Adedamola, popularly known as Fryo, scored 919 votes to emerge as the party’s flag bearer after the withdrawal of the incumbent governor.

He stated, “Following the successful voting, I am pleased to announce that 20 void votes were recorded. We told you earlier that one of the aspirants withdrew. The candidate that got the remaining votes is Adebayo Adedamola with 919 votes and stands elected and returned.”

Shortly after the announcement and the departure of the electoral committee, the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, arrived with a group of lawmakers and attempted to disrupt the already-concluded process.

He reportedly engaged in a heated confrontation with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who were present to observe the primary.
