Senior Police Officer Slumps, Dies During Meeting.

A senior police officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ogbon-Inu Taiwo Popoola, has died after collapsing during an officers’ management meeting in Ebonyi State.

The incident reportedly occurred around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Commissioner of Police’s office within the State Command headquarters in Abakaliki.

ACP Popoola, who was in charge of the State Intelligence Department (SID) before his death, was said to have suddenly developed breathing complications while the meeting was in progress.

Sources disclosed that he began gasping for breath and was immediately rushed to the Police Medical Centre at the Police Headquarters in Abakaliki, where medical personnel attended to him.

Despite swift medical intervention, he was confirmed dead by doctors. Preliminary findings indicated that he died from cardiac arrest linked to hypertensive heart disease.

His body has been deposited at the mortuary of the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital (AE-FUTHA 1) in Abakaliki.

Confirming the incident on Thursday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Joshua Ukandu, said the officer was not known to be ill before the meeting.

“Yes, he had a crisis during a meeting and was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he didn’t survive. He was not sick before the incident. If he was sick, he wouldn’t have attended the meeting,” Ukandu said.

He described the late ACP Popoola as a hardworking and dedicated officer, adding that the Commissioner of Police and the entire command commiserated with his family over the loss.
