Sheikh Gumi Speaks Out On Sponsors Of Terrorism In Nigeria.

Sheikh Ahmad Gumi.

Controversial Kaduna cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has spoken out on the lingering claims about those believed to be sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria.

In a strongly worded public prayer posted on Thursday, Gumi called for God’s punishment on anyone benefiting from the bloodshed taking place across the country.

His comments have once again pushed him into the centre of national debates on insecurity.

Gumi shared the prayer on his social media page, asking God to expose everyone behind the killings and crises affecting various communities.

He declared that any person—whether Nigerian or foreign—who gains directly or indirectly from terrorist activities should face divine anger.

According to him, such individuals should be punished immediately, provided no innocent person is harmed.

His prayer read: “Ya Allah! Whoever initiated or is behind this insecurity and bloodbath in Nigeria, whether foreign or citizen, or has any benefit, material or otherwise, or is even happy that people are being killed, or willingly did nothing to stop it, may by Your divine power be exposed and Your anger poured upon them and punished immediately without harm to the innocent. Amin. Say Amin!”

The message triggered widespread reactions, with many Nigerians questioning his choice of language and renewing arguments about his past interactions with bandits.

Some social media users accused him of sympathising with criminal groups, while others echoed the prayer and expressed hopes that those behind insecurity would be exposed.

Responding to the criticisms, Gumi brushed aside the attacks and urged people to focus on the prayer rather than on him as a person.

He insisted the message was directed at anyone fueling insecurity—whether through direct support, encouragement, or silence.

For years, Gumi has remained a controversial figure due to his visits and engagement with armed groups in the North-West.

Although he has repeatedly defended his actions as efforts toward dialogue and peace, several groups have continued to call for his arrest, accusing him of strengthening bandits.

His latest statement appears aimed at reinforcing his argument that Nigeria’s insecurity problem is not driven only by gunmen on the ground, but also by hidden figures benefitting from the chaos.
