The Sokoto State Government has expressed support for the joint airstrike carried out by Nigerian and United States forces targeting terrorists in Tangaza Local Government Area of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued to journalists on Friday in Sokoto and signed by the Director-General, Media and Publicity to the Sokoto State Government, Malam Abubakar Bawa.
Bawa confirmed that the operation was jointly conducted by the Nigerian Military and the United States Government in Tangaza LGA, adding that no civilian casualties were recorded during the strike.
He explained that the full impact of the operation could not yet be determined, as the authorities were awaiting further assessment from the security teams involved in the joint mission.
Bawa further stated that the circumstances surrounding certain objects discovered near Jabo Town in Tambuwal Local Government Area could not be immediately explained, as findings from analyses being carried out by Nigerian and US military authorities were still pending. He reiterated that no civilian casualties were recorded in Jabo Town.
He said, “Sokoto State Government welcomes any collaboration between Nigeria and all the relevant global stakeholders aimed at curbing the menace of terrorism and cross-border crimes in the state.
“The ongoing operations are geared towards securing the state and ensuring the protection of the lives and property of the citizenry.”
The Director-General noted that, over the past two years, the Sokoto State Government has continued to support security agencies in the fight against banditry and terrorism by providing essential equipment to strengthen safety efforts across the state.
He added that residents of the affected areas are encouraged to continue working closely with both federal and state authorities by providing useful and credible information to security agencies.
“This will assist them to sustain the ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security, as well as to continue to pray to the Almighty Allah to assist our security agencies to defeat criminals in the state and the country at large,” Bawa added.
