President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has given approval for the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission following the Senate’s confirmation of the nominees on December 16, 2025.
Under the new arrangement, Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni has been appointed Chairman of the commission, while Yusuf Ali will serve as Vice Chairman. Other members appointed as Commissioners are Nathan Rogers Shatti, Dafe Akpeneye, Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, Dr. Chidi Ike, and Dr. Fouad Animashaun.
The appointments were confirmed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Dr. Oseni, who joined NERC as a Commissioner in January 2017 and later rose to the position of Vice Chairman, assumed duty as Chairman on December 1, 2025. His tenure will run until the completion of his ten-year term, as stipulated in the Electricity Act, 2023.
Dr. Yusuf Ali, first appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022, also assumed office as Vice Chairman on December 1, 2025, and will serve for the remainder of his initial term.
Nathan Rogers Shatti and Dafe Akpeneye are currently serving their second terms as Commissioners, having been first appointed in January 2017. Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello is also on her second term, following her initial appointment in December 2020.
Dr. Chidi Ike is serving his first term after his appointment in February 2022, while Dr. Fouad Animashaun joins the board for his first term, effective December 2025.
Dr. Animashaun is an energy economist with extensive experience in Nigeria’s electricity sector and most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.
President Tinubu has tasked the reconstituted NERC board with strengthening and consolidating ongoing reforms in the power sector, in full compliance with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.
