President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday formally swore in five newly appointed Permanent Secretaries, the Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), and two commissioners.
The brief ceremony, held inside the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja, took place shortly before the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting began. The President administered the oath of office to the appointees in two separate batches.
The first batch consisted of the five Permanent Secretaries. They were Alhaji Abdulkarim Ozi Ibrahim from the North Central; Dr John Chidiebere Ezeamama; Dr Abdul Sule Usman Garba representing the North West; Dr Ishiyaku Musa Mohammed from the North East; and Dr Ukaire Binyerem Chigbowu from Abia State, representing the South East.
In addition to these officials, President Tinubu also swore in the newly appointed Chairman of the National Population Commission, Aminu Yusuf. Two commissioners of the Commission were sworn in as well, including Dr Betara Tonga from Yobe State.
After completing the swearing-in of all the appointees, the Council observed a minute of silence in honour of Ambassador Joy Uche Ogwu, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, who passed away at the age of 79.
Ogwu, widely regarded as a distinguished diplomat, served during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Immediately after the tribute, the Federal Executive Council went into full session. Those in attendance included Vice President Kashim Shettima; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; ministers; and presidential advisers.
