Abba Yusuf Speaks On Plans To Remove Sanusi As Kano Emir.

Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has denied reports claiming that Muhammadu Sanusi is facing removal as the Emir of Kano.

The governor said there is no discussion, decision, or arrangement aimed at changing the current emir.

The clarification followed reports published on January 31, 2026, suggesting that political developments could affect Sanusi’s position.

The governor made his position known through his Director-General of Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature.

Bature explained that the reports were false and driven by people spreading wrong information about the state.

He said the government has no intention of taking any step that would affect the emir’s position.

He added that Sanusi’s appointment was carried out after the emirates law was repealed and that the process followed the law in place at the time.

According to him, there is no plan by the state executive to amend the law again or take any action that would alter the current arrangement.

Bature also stated that political moves, including defections to the APC, have no effect on the status of the Emir of Kano.

He said Sanusi remains the lawful emir and will continue in that role, as there is no move or plan to replace him.
