ADC Warns Supporters Against Divisive Politics.

The African Democratic Congress has told supporters of its presidential hopefuls to stop creating division ahead of the 2027 general election.

The warning came on January 24 during an online discussion on X Space, where the party’s national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, addressed rising tension among followers of leading aspirants.

Some top figures in the party, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, have shown interest in seeking the party’s presidential ticket.

This has led to open arguments among their supporters, especially over whether the ticket should go to the South or be open to all regions.

Abdullahi said the party would not succeed if its supporters continue to fight among themselves.

He explained that pushing the idea of one candidate alone was harmful and only helped the ruling All Progressives Congress and President Bola Tinubu.

He added that winning the ticket without winning the election would not bring any real change.

The party spokesman said unity was more important than personal loyalty to any aspirant.

He stated that all those seeking the ticket were capable and should be treated with respect, adding that attacking any person or region would only weaken the party.

He also said the party would begin steps to build stronger unity and ensure its leaders speak in one voice.

According to him, those promoting division were not helping any candidate and were only making it harder for the party to gain support across the country.

Earlier in the month, Atiku Abubakar also warned supporters of opposition leaders to stop trading insults, saying such actions only favoured the ruling party.

He added that anyone attacking him or Obi was not working in the interest of Nigerians or the opposition coalition.

On January 6, Abubakar said no aspirant would step down before the party begins its selection process, noting that every qualified member would be allowed to contest freely for the ticket.
