Air Peace Rejects Claims Over Lagos–São Paulo Flight.

Air Peace has dismissed allegations that it worked with the Federal Government to mislead Nigerians over plans to launch direct flights between Lagos and São Paulo, Brazil.

The airline reacted after reports emerged that some Nigerians living in Brazil accused both the government and Air Peace of making false promises about the start of the route.

The complaints were linked to a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Nigeria and Brazil in August 2025, which many believed meant flights would begin soon.

In its response, Air Peace said the claims were untrue and aimed at damaging the airline and the government.

The company explained that an MoU is only an agreement between countries to cooperate and does not mean flights will start immediately.

According to the airline, several steps must be completed before any international route can begin operations.

Air Peace stated that no Nigerian was stranded because no tickets were sold, no bookings were opened, and no flight dates were announced for the Lagos–São Paulo route.

It said expectations created by individuals should not be mistaken for deception by the airline.

The airline explained that long-haul international flights require approvals from aviation authorities in both countries, airport slot allocations, safety and insurance clearances, and detailed planning on aircraft use and route cost.

These processes, it said, cannot be rushed.

On concerns about aircraft availability, Air Peace said it has four Boeing 777 aircraft in its fleet.

Two are currently used for its London routes, while the remaining two are available for other long-distance routes once all approvals are completed, including the São Paulo service.

Air Peace also rejected claims that it is responsible for high international airfares, noting that an MoU does not control ticket prices or the operations of foreign airlines.

The airline added that it began work on the Lagos–São Paulo route last year and is still engaging Nigerian authorities, the Brazilian government, and other partners in Brazil to ensure the service starts properly when all requirements are met.

It described the accusations as a planned smear campaign driven by vested interests and insisted that safety remains its top priority. Air Peace said aviation operations must follow strict rules and that flights will only begin when every condition has been fully satisfied.
