Army Raids Terror Camps In Kwara, Bandits Killed.

The Nigerian Army has carried out fresh attacks on terrorist hideouts in Kwara State, killing bandits and forcing others to flee during sustained operations across forest areas in the state.

The operations, which took place on January 31, 2026, were carried out by troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade within the Joint Operations Area in Kwara.

The development was made known in a statement issued on Friday by Captain Maureen Ogbuka on behalf of the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for 2 Division and Sector 3 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

According to the statement, the offensive missions were carried out with strong backing from the Office of the National Security Adviser.

The exercise was led by the General Officer Commanding, 2 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Sector 3, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Chinedu Nnebife, alongside the Commander of 22 Brigade, Brigadier General Nicholas Rume.

During the operations, soldiers moved into several terrorist enclaves and engaged the bandits in fierce encounters.

One terrorist was killed, while others escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds.

Their camps and hideouts were destroyed, forcing the bandits out of the areas they once occupied.

Troops also cleared Garin Dandi, identified as a major bandits’ enclave in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The operation led to the destruction of logistics bases and supply routes used by the criminal groups to sustain their activities.

In other parts of the state, soldiers reached remote camps that had previously been difficult for security forces to access.

Several abandoned camps and items used to support the bandits were destroyed, weakening their ability to operate.

Despite the tough terrain and thick forest environment, the troops maintained pressure across the affected areas, limiting the movement of the bandits.

Soldiers also blocked escape routes, leading to the arrest of suspected bandits who were attempting to flee.

Many kidnap victims held in different camps were rescued during the operations.

The army noted that findings from the missions showed that some bandits received help from people living in nearby communities.

These collaborators were said to provide information about troop movements, allowing the criminals to withdraw before attacks.

The Nigerian Army said the results recorded so far show its determination to reduce terrorist activities and restore safety across Kwara State.

The General Officer Commanding of 2 Division appealed to residents to continue sharing useful and timely information about bandits and their helpers, as operations are still ongoing to flush out all remaining terrorist groups in the state.
