BREAKING: Four Rivers Lawmakers Make U-Turn, Insist On Fubara’s Impeachment.

The four members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who earlier withdrew from the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara have made a dramatic U-turn, declaring their renewed support for his removal.

The lawmakers had, a few days earlier, publicly distanced themselves from the impeachment process and appealed to their colleagues to embrace dialogue and restraint.

Among them were the Minority Leader of the House, Sylvanus Nwankwo, who represents Omuma State Constituency, and Peter Abbey, representing Degema State Constituency. Both had urged the Assembly to halt the impeachment move.

They were later joined by the Deputy Minority Leader, Barile Nwakoh of Khana Constituency I, and Emilia Amadi of Obio/Akpor Constituency II, who also called for reconciliation and a peaceful resolution of the crisis.

However, during a press conference held on Friday by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the four lawmakers announced a reversal of their earlier stance.

They stated that Governor Fubara had failed to take steps that would warrant a withdrawal from the impeachment process, insisting that their initial appeals had not yielded any meaningful response.

According to them, the governor’s continued actions left them with no option but to support the impeachment proceedings.

The lawmakers further declared that the Rivers State House of Assembly would proceed with the impeachment of Governor Fubara and his deputy, arguing that their removal would prevent a breakdown of law and order in the state.

The renewed position comes amid an ongoing political standoff between the executive and legislative arms of government in Rivers State, a crisis that has continued to heighten political tension across the state.
