A driver lost his life after a crash between two large trailers on Otedola Bridge along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
One trailer was carrying sand while the other transported granite.
The collision occurred inward Lagos toward the Secretariat, causing major traffic delays.
Authorities said the crash happened as both vehicles reportedly competed for the right of way.
The driver of the sand-laden trailer became trapped inside his vehicle and suffered fatal injuries.
Rescue teams from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) arrived quickly, freed the driver, and handed him over to Lagos State Ambulance Service personnel.
He was taken to Ikeja General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
The driver of the granite-carrying trailer survived without injury.
In a separate incident, a trailer fully loaded with flour overturned about 50 meters from the first crash site, adding to congestion in the area.
Police officers were deployed to manage the scene and prevent further accidents.
Together, the two crashes blocked nearly 80 percent of the carriageway, forcing authorities to implement traffic control and diversion measures.
Motorists heading into Lagos from Mowe, Kara Bridge, and Redemption Camp were redirected through Ojodu–Olole, connecting Agidingbi, Coca-Cola, Secretariat, and 7-Up roads, to continue toward Gbagada or Ojota with minimal disruption.
Officials urged drivers to follow traffic rules and show courtesy on the road to prevent avoidable accidents.
