Abuja residents were shaken after an officer of the Department of State Services (DSS) opened fire on three men in Karmajiji village, leaving two dead.
The incident occurred on January 19, 2026.
Police sources said the officer, identified as Ajayi Abayomi, has gone into hiding and has not responded to police calls to assist with the investigation.
Authorities reported that Abayomi claimed the shooting was accidental, saying he unintentionally fired his gun.
One of the victims, Musa Adamu, died shortly after the shooting.
Another victim, Suleiman Salisu, passed away on January 28, 2026, at the Federal Medical Centre, Abuja.
The third person, Abdullahi Ahmed, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Police revealed that the bullet struck Adamu first, then pierced Salisu’s stomach, and finally hit Ahmed in the hand.
Families of the victims expressed grief and called for justice for their loved ones.
Relatives gathered at the hospital to retrieve Salisu’s body, mourning the loss and appealing for accountability from the DSS officer involved.
