The Federal Government has allocated more than N13 billion in the 2026 budget to strengthen Nigeria’s security agencies with arms, ammunition, and related equipment.
The budget documents show that a total of N13,124,747,575 has been set aside for key security institutions to acquire weapons and protective gear.
The Ministry of Defence will receive N688.8 million to purchase arms and ammunition for the Armed Forces, while the Defence Headquarters has been given N1.46 billion for similar needs.
The Nigerian Air Force is set to receive the largest share, N6.13 billion, which will cover aircraft platforms, weapons, and ammunition.
Part of this allocation includes N1.79 billion to acquire 2,000 AR-M5T assault rifles.
Other security agencies are also beneficiaries.
The Nigerian Immigration Service will use N702.7 million for arms, ammunition, webbing, and ballistic protection gear.
The Nigeria Police Force has N1.03 billion set aside for weapons and protective equipment, while the Department of State Services will spend N1 billion on arms and ammunition.
Additional allocations include N68.8 million for the National Park Headquarters to acquire 100 firearms and ammunition, and N253.5 million for the Nigerian Defence Academy to purchase automatic rifles and magazines for cadet training.
The budget comes after a sharp drop in Nigeria’s arms imports in 2025.
