Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has announced a fresh date for his move from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), following earlier delays.
The governor reportedly shared the updated plan late Thursday night during a private meeting with members of the Kano State House of Assembly.
Sources at the meeting, who asked to remain anonymous, said Yusuf outlined a three-day schedule for the transition.
According to the plan, he will officially resign from the NNPP on Saturday.
On Sunday, he is expected to declare his membership in the APC, and Monday will be set aside for collecting his party membership card.
Governor Yusuf also revealed that he had reached an agreement with the APC national leadership to hold a majority share in the party.
A committee is expected to be formed to determine the details of his stake ahead of the party’s upcoming congress.
On questions about his former political mentor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Yusuf explained that he had met with the President to encourage Kwankwaso to join the APC.
However, sources said the planned meeting between the President and Kwankwaso may no longer take place.
Reports suggest Kwankwaso has no plans to move to the APC, as discussions with former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi are reportedly progressing.
