Lagos Mainland Bans Sleeping In Oyingbo Market.

The Chairman of Lagos Mainland Local Government, Jubril Emilagba, has ordered an end to overnight stays inside Oyingbo Market as part of steps to improve security in the area.

He gave the order on Friday during a security meeting with market leaders and traders, saying the action became necessary because of rising safety concerns and the need to protect lives and property within the market.

Emilagba said the decision forms part of his administration’s wider plan to strengthen safety across markets under the council and reduce the chances of criminals using the market as a hideout.

According to him, the market must remain a place for legal trading activities and not a place where people live or sleep at night, as this creates room for theft and other crimes.

He said the council would work closely with security agencies and market leaders to make sure the order is obeyed and that the market environment remains safe for traders, buyers and nearby residents.

The council boss added that his administration would continue to hold regular meetings with market stakeholders, noting that cooperation from traders is key to keeping the market orderly and secure.

During the meeting, Emilagba also urged traders to register for the National Identification Number and with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, saying proper identity records help security planning.

He further encouraged eligible traders to take part in the ongoing All Progressives Congress e-registration exercise to support political participation at the grassroots level.
